New CEF Transport 2023 funding calls
The European Commission has opened 37 new CEF Transport 2023-2024 funding calls, with a total budget of €7 billion. These calls aim to support cross-border transport projects that contribute to the objectives of the Urban Mobility Strategy and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.
Projects funded under these calls will help to increase the sustainability of the trans-European transport network, putting the EU on track to meet the European Green Deal target of reducing transport emissions by 90% by 2050.
The calls support the European Commission’s vision of a future sustainable transport system, with smart and resilient solutions implemented to connect Europe.
The EU needs an efficient and interconnected multimodal transport system for passengers and goods. This includes an affordable, reliable, and high-performing rail network, enhanced inland waterway navigation and infrastructure in maritime ports, a balanced interconnection between transport modes, and an increase in automation and interoperability for greater efficiency and safety of the transport network.
The calls cover the Core and Global TEN-T networks in the following areas:
- Railways
- Inland waterways
- Maritime and inland ports
- Road safety
- Rail terminals
- Multimodal logistics platforms
- Passenger multimodal nodes
- Smart and interoperable applications for transport
- Safe mobility
- Infrastructure resilience
CEF Transport 2023 calls for proposals Info Day
The European Commission will hold an online info day on 10 October 2023 to provide more information on the calls and help potential applicants prepare their proposals.
How to apply for funding
CEF Transport funding applications must be submitted through the European Commission’s funding portal. The deadline for submitting applications varies depending on the call. All proposals require the express validation of the Member State.

The deadline for submitting proposals begins on 26 September and ends on 30 January 2024.
