Kaila data: the base of the Zabala Innovation Radar

It is an annual report produced by Zabala Innovation with academic support from Deusto Business School. It offers a strategic perspective on how innovation is financed and structured in Spain and across Europe. It goes beyond compiling figures: it organises a complex system of schemes and programmes, interprets trends, and identifies patterns to support strategic decision-making.
What is the Zabala Innovation Radar and what is it for?
The Zabala Innovation Radar is designed as a tool to understand the “real map” of public funding for innovation: which instruments exist, how they are distributed, and what effects they have when comparing territories and European dynamics. This report helps to:
- Put innovation decisions into context with a Spain–Europe comparative view,
- Identify shifts in priorities and incentives,
- Reduce risk when planning strategy without a complete reading of the landscape.
Why the Zabala Innovation Radar is based on data extracted from Kaila
The Zabala Innovation Radar uses data extracted from Kaila. The analysis relies on a structured, connected and comparable data layer, rather than manual searches or isolated sources.
- An environment that integrates 79 European public data sources, alongside information from EU programmes and records from Spain’s National Subsidies Database (BDNS).
- It helps identify patterns, territorial dynamics and efficiency levels that are not visible in traditional statistics.
This approach allows the Zabala Innovation Radar to go beyond traditional indicators and analyse patterns of efficiency, collaboration and the use of funds from a comparative perspective.
The launch event for the Zabala Innovation Radar
The Zabala Innovation Radar was launched at an event in Madrid. The event took place on 17 February 2026 at the Rafael del Pino Foundation Auditorium and brought together nearly 250 representatives from business, institutions and academia.
The event introduced the first edition of the Zabala Innovation Radar, explained its annual approach, and highlighted its methodological foundation—academically supported by Deusto Business School and strengthened by Kaila’s data analysis.
